ArmA forum for hardware issues

ArmA is a broken game, no doubt, but that doesnt mean all you tweakers and modders and gurus dont know how to fix it.I have the retail US version and just applied the newest patch to it, and it still doesnt work well. If im lucky it plays for 20 minutes before crashing, and if I am unlucky it artifacts and doesnt load textures. For example, in the ''Devil's Cross'' mission, my A10 was a drab grey fuselage for 20 seconds before the rest of the textures (and the model, such as the landing gear, engine, and wings) loaded.THe game has a lot of potential to look great, and from my brief spurts of playing it, the game seems like a worthy succesor to OpFlashpoint. But its broken! My rig, fyi:
Core 2 Duo
eVGA 680i mobo
eVGA 8800GTS 320MB
2GB G.Skill memory
20.5 in widescreen Sceptre-brand monitor

Other forum posts lead me to believe the 8800 is the source of the problem.ArmA forum for hardware issues
I have a 8800gts 640 and when i turn AA on in COD2 i cant see anything exept the chatbox, maybe turning of AA in Arma helps.ArmA forum for hardware issues
I have a 8800gts 640 and when i turn AA on in COD2 i cant see anything exept the chatbox, maybe turning of AA in Arma helps.
OK, I will give that a try. I could live with only a part of the game being broken until the next patch, but if the whole thing is busted (as it feels now) then we need more fixes. Thanks for the post.
Using a C2Quad and an 8800 on 162.18 (but all the drivers I've tried since 158 have also worked fine), ArmA gives no problems at all. Especially since 1.08, you can pretty much max most of the sliders and it'll run great.

I've never seen the game artifacting, either.
Man I dont understand that. I got the 162 drivers, the 1.8 patch, and an 8800 also. Did you make any tweaks or anything?Btw, turning off AA seemed to make it more stable but there are still issues with textures.
Are you running Vista?

My friend is running a digital download version from Atari, and it's also no problems for him - 1.08 patch, 158 drivers on an 8800GTS with an E6600.

edit: apologies if the answer's in your sig - i keep sigs turned off for whatever old crotchety reason ;D

As someone said earlier, turning off AA helps and indeed it does. While there are still a few texture issues and the occasional stutter, the game is atleast stable and playable with AA turned off. Thanks for the replies.
I had no problem with ArmA, C2D E6750 and Gainward 8800GTS 320
There are issues with ArmA and the 8800 series cards. BIS knows about it, and they hope to fix it in the next patch. There's really nothing you can do in the meantime except deal with it.
I used to love Arma but now I have vista for Dx10. It seems like BIS is doing absolutely nothing to support it, I dont think even the upcoming xpack will support it =/
