So... i bought this rig a year ago, ran pretty smoothly minus some motherboard/ram issues. At first i had old IDE hard drives from my last rig, that one broke so i got a sata and then i had 1 ide and 1 sata. 2 weeks ago my computer wouldnt boot up, i opened it up and found the ide was busted, i tried to install windows on the sata but that wouldnt work either, the guy at canada computers (after taking it to them) said that nothing was writing to the boot sector of my hard disc (or something along those lines).Im now looking for new hardware. My question is (err, questions are): why are all my harddrives breaking? The guy said i must have just gotten a bad sata out of the batch, i just wanna make sure it isnt being overstressed to avoid this in the future. FOr my new harddrive setup i want two harddrives, to cut down on seek time and price. Is it better to go two internal or one internal and external (keeping school, price and moderately hardcore gaming and music habits in mind)? How much does RPM matter and how can i prevent serious downtime if one harddrives goes down in the future (IE more specefically backing up windows)? Thanks in advance. New Harddrive setup
Well, if you have to get a new hdd, I might suggest investing in a raptor 10k rpm. Some people will really disagree with this, but there is a performance difference. Others will then say that you could partition a 7200 rpm hdd to get some faster times.. but you could to that to a raptor as well (or raid, but I have never used that, so I have no opinion). Performance>space imo, and have a second drive if you want to store a bunch of media. Keep windows and games on the raptor, and music/media on the other slower drive.New Harddrive setup
So, ive decided to get one drive for now, tell me what you think.http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct%26cmd=pd%26pid=010669%26cid=HD.96Also, are there any requirements this drive needs in terms of MOBO? I'm using the asus m2n-e, it has i think 5 s-ata slots so im naturally assuming it will work. Also, i plan to get an external soon, probably a 150gb seagate 7200 rpm, its good enough for movies/music/documents right?

And no, there are no special reqs. An external will be fine for other docs, and I always prefered having firewire for the connection. My WD 320 gig has never had a single issue.
