You guys build high end gaming rigs all of the time, but can you build a cheap, low end gaming computer? I am budgeting $70-$90 for the graphics card. What is the cheapest computer you build for gaming? I have a 20'' monitor and a good 20-pin 450W psu as well as the keyboard, mouse, etc.You guys build high end gaming rigs all of the time, but can you build a ...

I am trying to build a pc like that to.

Pretty sure the Oct issue of maximumpc will have a budget pc build for gaming. they do it every year and usually build a great machine on the cheap, real cheap.
20-pin? You're going to want a 24-pin if you plan on getting a PCI-e rig, as those four extra pins are there to provide power to the PCI-e slot.Cheapest I'd generally go for a gaming rig is probably between $500-$600. A low-end Athlon X2 AM2 processor and motherboard, a cheap 2x1GB RAM kit, 160GB hard drive, decent case, cheap optical drive, 7600GT/2600Pro graphics card, and something like the Antec Earthwatts power supply might even keep you under $500, albeit without a copy of a new OS.Edit: trim off the case and hard drive, and you're down under $400, since you don't need those. Still a bit over your budget - you could save around $20 for half the RAM, but that's not exactly a good deal. Still, every little bit helps.

This is the best I could do - I think I did pretty good.mobocpuramCDWhat I am doing is this:Taking my old current computer (sig) and removing the VGA (it still has integrated)Taking the mobo, cpu, ram, one HDD, and a new 20-pin 300W psu and puting them in my kitchen cabinet.I am then going to get a new cheap gaming computer. (around $200 - $250)It will need a 24-pin psu, a mobo, a cpu, ram, and a vga. Then I will take the psu that from my current pc and put it in my back rom pc along with a new mobo, cpu, ram, and the 9600pro in my sig. Both of my current pcs need upgraded bad.

$200-$250(usd)- mobo cpu ram vga psu
extra PSU- 20-pin
Cheapest I could do (without XP Im $25 over):MotherboardVideo cardProcessorRam (4)PSU (needed 24 pin)XPThis is the lowest i would feel comfortable using, it will run, how well i can't be sure without a benchmark. Is $200 your absolute budget? I know for $500 I could make some pretty comparable rigs.
This is the best I could do. The gaming rig is a little over already, but would the extra $15 be worth a 7600GT instead of a 7600GS?As cheap as possible- mobo - 20-pin with AGP slotcpuram cd-rom

$200-$250(usd)- mobo cpu ram vga psu
extra PSU- 20-pin

For $410 with XP:MotherboardCPURAM (2)PSUVideo cardXP

So I left it as optional.I'm pretty impressed with yours though, $270 is low, I could have gone to a socket 478 and lowered cost but, I wanted to at least make sure you could upgrade to new proc if you wanted so thats why i chose that config instead.
For $410 with XP:MotherboardCPURAM (2)PSUVideo cardXP
That is a good one. I am leaning toward AMD's low prices though.
Why do I need XP? What does it have that 2k does not? I think you could make pretty good rigs if you freed up that extra $90.
