put dvd or cd in and nothing happens

I reformatted my computer, reinstalled vista, now when I put a dvd or cd, it doesn't work. Nothing shows up, in My Computer it doesnt show that theres a dvd or cd in there. How do I fix this?

does it show up the post or in the bios. if it doesn't show up in either of those places, check the interface and power cables. if that still doesn't solve it, i would say that it crapped out on at the same time as the upgrade by coincidence.
it's in the device manager, it says it's there.

I guess I need a new driver for it, anyone know where to find a driver for this?

Try uninstalling the hardware (from device manager)and go detect new hardware and let it reinstall the drivers itself.
When I do that, it says it's installing it then it just says ''failed''
maybe it's just broken
When you boot up your pc does it show it booting up with it. The lense inside it can be broken possibly.
