Why???

I'll start off by saying that this isnt a dig at people that upgrade their computers, im genuinly curious.Why do people feel the need to stay constantly upgraded? e.g. run new games on the highest settings no matter the cost?I read these forums occasionally and i see people upgrading nearly new components for brand new ones that will probably give them an increase of about 2 FPS at the cost of around £100-200!So why bother?Why???
Most people don't upgrade constantly but some people with disposable incomes want to waste their money. Why???
Actually, there are quite a number of folks who do have more than enough funds to swap for newer parts every couple of weeks, but the games themselves are the excuse, and the measurement, not the real reason. It is the desire to have the largest e-Pecker syndrome that drives the constant upgrades for a great many.

WTF are you talking about?? nobody upbrade only for 2fps. Just look at x1950XT and 2900XT, the difference is huge
Well, I upgrade simply because I want to play games the way they are meant to be played.
Kinda like if I had the choice to watch a movie with or without colours, I would choose to have colours.

Don't say that upgrading doesn't matter, I have a geforce 7600GT right now, within a month I will get a 8800GTS 320Mb, and believe me there will be a difference.

Why do people spend hundred of dollars for a rig that will play games on the highest settings? What is wrong with spending a few hundred less and just playing games on medium-high? You could get a great AM2 mobo with a mediocre cpu and a decent vga. It would not play games on high, but in a year when they want to push it up a few notches, they could pop in a phenom and a decent (a year from now) vg. That would let you stay up to power and be really cheap compared to jumping for the highest settings.

You should wait till you can't play any games at all before you upgrade like I did when I got my 9600pro a few weeks ago!:lol: - Of course I am kidding. How large is your monitor? If it is a 19'' LCD, you might be able to do without the 8800gts and save $100 by getting a cheaper card.

Are you sure that you saw people who were upgrading their parts for 2 fps? Their are a lot of people who are trying to pick out parts. A lot of the times they will spend a few more dollars for a part 2fps better. They don't already have it - they are trying to see which one to get, and they end up getting a SLIGHTLY better one.Just a though, because I don't recall seeing what you're talking about. I could be wrong.

The main reasons that I can think of saving money are: saving for a bigger monitor, saving for a console, buying more games, going to a fancy restaurant :), and buying food to survive.Having a lot of money negates those reasons though. :lol:
I don't think you're supposed to take the 2 fps that literally.. I try to do a major upgrade every 3-5 years and do some minor upgrades in the period in between. I don't have the funds and also don't really care if I have to play a game at 800*600 for example, and thus spend nowhere near as much money as some peoples in here. If I did have the cash I might though, because aside from gaming I also consider my pc as a hobby. I actually enjoy upgrading and tweaking it for that little bit of extra performance that I might be able to measure but probably will never notice.. :)

[/QUOTE]Now, that's what I'm talking about! A nice slow upgrade. Get a mobo that will allow you to upgrade, then a year or two later, max your mobo's power. Another few years later, get a new rig and repeat. You can see that my funds have not been high enough to do that though. :) Although, I also did not get into the technical hardware part of computers until this year. And knowing how to build your own can make what funds you have stretch.
I believe he was referring to people owning a 8800GTX and then purchasing a 8800 Ultra (Aka not much difference in performance). People like this tend to just want the most expensive/current just to say ''Hey, look at me!!!!''
