Well, I'd love to get an 8800 graphics card. Problem is there is no way it would ever fit in my case. Will they ever ''shrink'' these dang things or am I doomed until I get a new PC with a bigger case? Will new video cards ever get SMALLER?
There's nothing wrong with your 7950GT,the 9800's are supposed to be smaller than the 8800's.Will new video cards ever get SMALLER?

Yeah, I don't think I'd upgrade from my 7950 anytime soon, however, in the future, I'd like to have some DX 10 functionality but I'm willing to wait.
Could that also mean less power consumption?

They'll eventually get smaller. You can only get so big before the card won't fit in most computers and becomes too hot.
Tired of all these 9800 rumors. I hear something different about them every day, it's getting kind of ridiculous.

How are these rumors? This is common sense...
The 8800GTX/Ultra are, most likely, the largest sized cards we will see, in the near future.
this is pure guess work, but when they do a die shrink of the 8800 series from 90nm to 65nm it might make the card smaller, like the 7900gt series.

Nvidia's next GPU is DEFINITELY 65nm, if it was 90 or 80nm we would have seen it 3 months ago...A die shrink has nothing to do with the size of the PCB.
But I definitely don't see cards getting longer then a GTX, Nvidia found out that 10.5 inches causes some problems and they better not repeat that mistake.
the physical GPU may shrink, but then there's also the issue of making sure the thing has enough power to run. But that's more of an issue of how the electronics that make the GPU work are designed.Blame ATi and nVidia for expanding their graphic card sizes.Though I do agree... it can only get so big before the thing simply won't physically fit in a standard case. And at that point, there wouldn't be enough people to buy the thing. But if you think the 8800's are big, you should see the 6800 Ultra DDL graphics card that nVidia made for the PowerMac G5 tower. That thing literally needed the length of the whole case, because that card had to be retrofitted with so much extra kit on the PCB in order to be able to output to their 30'' displays. Thankfully, graphics cards after that have all been much shorter.

As soon as I get some money to waste with my new career I plan on building one of those sweet little boxes, the thermaltake one I think. Idunno, they just look so cool imo and theyre somewhat portable. Maybe stat a little liquid-cooling system on top and bolt it to the case for a little extra flare. The thing is that I want it to be extremely capable, Im talking Dx10 card, quadcore, and 2GB of memory.
