X1950XT or 8600GTS

A friend of mine is looking on upgrading his computer from an Geforce 6800 to either a Geforce 8600 GTS or a Radeon X1950 pro or XT, Im also upgrading and looking into a Geforce 8600 GTS, He has no idea what to get. He prefers getting a DX10 but I told him if he wanted a DX10 card to look into a 8800. He says he has no money and really likes a card. I also recommended a X1960 XT or pro and he thinks its a ok card. What do you think is the better card? X1950XT or 8600GTS
definetly the X1950XT. The 8600 is an average budget dx9 performer but in dx10 its really not good at all. Hell if the 320 GTS is having a bit of trouble you can tell the 8600 will just get butt raped. high dx9 performance is better than bad dx10 performance. X1950XT or 8600GTS
yeah definetly go with the X1950XT...unless you feel you absolutely NEED to play in dx10, the X1950XT is a much better choice
i think even on DX10 games 8600gts wont beat x1950xt. I t may beat 1950 pro but not xt.With simple overclockin and cooling , u can go up to 1950xtx levels.

you should buy the X1950XT and hold until the next year..........then sell your card in a 3rd world country for twice its price.....and with that money buy a geforce 9 series highend card on 2008's chrismas.....trust me i'm gonna do the same
How much of a diffrence between a X1950XT 256mb and a X1950XT 512mb is there?

I wonder how will you compare 8600GTS and x1950XT in Dx10 because X1950XT does not support Dx 10
..

By the way, this is my plan also, except I will go with the X1950Pro since it costs less and consumes less power. The benchmarks I have seen for the X1950Pro and especially the X1950XT look solid. As was mentioned, a high-end DX9 card is better than a very mediocre DX10 card, especially since most DX10 games will not come until later this year and by the time DX10 is becoming more common in 2008 and 2009, there will definitely be a new generation of DX10 cards.

I recommend 8600. IMO its not smart to buy GPUs from last generation, if you can go for current gen. Besides, 8600 should run Bioshock in DX10 on high settings in 1280x102 whit very good framerate. That was written in interview whit developers on bioshock official website.

Ill see what i can do.EDIT: Got link: www.2kgames.com/cultofrapture/pcblowout.html. Sorry couldnt copy it since it doesnt work in Firefox. Well i can rewrite some things from interview. As you know 8600 is recommended GPU for DX10.''Q: What kind of frame rates can you expect whit using 8600 card and DX10??A: Depens on what detail settings you use and what resolution as well as your CPU. Obviously this card wil support game pretty well though, so i would expect at least 30-40 FPS on high detail.''That proves that it will be playable on high detailes. Not what resolution. That is the next question.''Q: How high a resolution can you play this game at whit recommended DX9 and DX10 specs? What will the framerates be? A: Pretty much whetever your card and monitor support. For a really good framerate we would probably recommend 1280x1024, though you could go higher if you prefer higher resolution to super high FPS.''Here you go. Prove.
