Hey well I'm planning on building a computer for the first time soon, and I've been looking and looking, and I got some things picked out, but I'm not quite confident in my choice of motherboards...I don't know what I need in a mother board, or all the slots and stuff, so I'm not sure whether I'll get a good one. Do any of ya'll have any suggestions for a good mobo that runs around $80-$120?Thanks...Heres everything else BTW:Case: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16811146025Hard Drive: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16822152085Video Card: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16814130082Processor: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16819115030 Power-Supply: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16817182062Memory: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16820144047DVD Drive:http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16827151133OS: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16832116056Recommended Motherboard?
You might want a processor with that rig. You'll definitely also want a better power supply.Recommended Motherboard?
Whoops...forgot that...Edited it in.;)
Whoops...forgot that...Edited it in.;)
Definitely pick up a P35 board - the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L fits your budget perfectly, and is an excellent performer.
Ok...How would that compare to this one, which someone mentioned in another topic: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16813188017Also...whats a better PSU then?
BUMP
Ok...How would that compare to this one, which someone mentioned in another topic: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16813188017Also...whats a better PSU then?
The only real advantage that board offers is support for SLI, and RAID capabilities. It also claims to have Penryn capabilities and support for the 1333MHz FSB processors like the P35 board, but personally I'd stick with the sure thing offered on the P35. As for the power supply, I'd look into something like the Corsair HX520w, Enermax Liberty ELT500w, a 500w Seasonic M12 or S12, or the Silverstone ST50EF-Plus.
Ok thanks alot...I'm gonna get a Seasonic S12 550W PSU...its $50 more then The other but I guess I can spare a few bucks, annd it does have free shipping :)Also...about the Motherboard...what exactly is SLi? And I thought I needed it for something to do with the video card...no? But if you say so Gigabyte it is...And would that stuff all be compatible? Thanks again.

It won't double your performance (generally 30-60% I believe), but it will offer a good increase. It's worth pointing out that most of the benefits are for users with very large or dual monitor setups, and that a lot of the Vista drivers for SLI are still shakey. It can sometimes be a good way to help salvage an aging system, but it's generally better reserved for people looking for the bleeding edge in performance. And all that stuff is indeed compatible, yes.
Ok thanks...I dont think I'll be buying a 2nd 8800GTS any time soon...lol...
Ok thanks...I dont think I'll be buying a 2nd 8800GTS any time soon...lol...
I should hope not - by the time you do consider a replacement, it'll likely be a much better idea just to get a new card altogether, rather than a second and possibly hard-to-find 8800 card.
Ok...well I was thinking...Will this mobo last a while into the future? Will SLi and the other fancy addon stuff be necessary, say...a year from now?
Ok...well I was thinking...Will this mobo last a while into the future? Will SLi and the other fancy addon stuff be necessary, say...a year from now?
Usually the problems with motherboards, when it comes to upgrading an aging system, is that the CPU sockets has changed. Intel has used it's 775-pin config for 3-4 years now, if not more. If they're keeping their 775-pin config for another 3-4 years then the motherboard is ''future-proof'' so to say (unless you want a state-of-the-art machine next time). On the other hand Intel might introduce a new pin-config 6 months from now, in which case you most likely will need a new mobo whenever you decide to upgrade.Regarding SLi then it's not worth buying unless you want state-of-the-art graphics. I bought a SLi motherboard sometime ago so whenever I decided to upgrade I would only need to buy a new CPU and a identical vga-card (PoV 6600GT). Now when I'm looking at upgrading I find I get much more for my money buying a 8800GTS card rather than running 2 6600GT's in SLi mode.Regarding which mobo to chose then usually Asus is the most stable when running in standard config but others like Gigabyte and Abit offers more features regarding overclocking and the like (hence they are easier to overclock). When it comes to P35 chipset vs 680i chipset then as fare as I can tell then they're pretty much neck to neck.
OK, thanks...Thats all I needed to know.
