Worth getting a 64bit OS

Well, I am just curious, is it worth getting the 64-bit Vista, doe sit give you a performance increase?cheers-D'artagnanWorth getting a 64bit OS
Not really. Not unless you are using an application that takes advantage of the 64bit OS.Worth getting a 64bit OS
It won't give you a performance increase in 32 bit applications but it doesn't seem to slow down after 6 months either. I've been running 64 bit vista since the release date and it runs as good now as the day I installed it. But you do loose some compatibility.
64bits and XP aren't that good. If you enjoy old games you will have some troubles. Some issues with drivers but very nice forums like planetamd64 and many others, so you can get past all the bugs.at least that was my experience with XP 64

It is true you can't run old games but planetamd64 forums, help with some games for me lost planet.
Anyone know if Starcraft is playable on Vista 64bit?
The only game I have seen so far try and take advantage of 64-bit is Half-Life 2.The biggest advantage you will notice in going to a 64-bit OS, is the ability to have more system RAM. 32-bit OS are capped around 3.5GB, while 64-bit OS can do like 128GB (or some insanely high number). Most Motherboards cap at around 8GB right now.Downside of 64-bit OS, the drivers are not very mature.
Not worth it.

Unless you want to run SQL tools that require huge amounts of RAM and have system that can support the high amount, or programs that take advantage of 64-bit.
